Meet Your AIG Teachers
MEET MS. SHEEHAN
Hello! My name is Anne Sheehan and I am one of the AIG teachers at Olive Chapel Elementary this year. The 2021-2022 school year will be my 19th year of teaching. Before coming to Wake County I taught 5th grade, 3rd grade, and 2nd grade in Charlotte, NC and in Boca Raton, Florida.
This will be my 5th year at OCE. I am so fortunate to be apart of the Clipper family. It is going to be such an exciting year of learning at OCE!
I come from a big family and I love it! There are 6 kids and 2 of the most amazing parents in my family. I have a twin sister who lives in Cary. She is actually a big part of the reason I moved to the area. The rest of my family is spread all around the country at the moment. My siblings can be found in Indianapolis, Washington D.C., Chicago, St. Louis, and NYC! My parents are retired and enjoying it in New Hampshire. We love meeting up in Washington D.C. and NYC for family adventures.
In my free time I enjoy reading, drinking hot coffee, cooking, running, and exploring the North Carolina Museum of Art. Two of my favorite ways to spend my time away from school is exploring the Umstead Park and trying out new recipes. I also enjoying spoiling my 9 nephews and nieces as much as possible. I am the luckiest auntie! A few winters ago I was fortunate enough to travel to China for three weeks and teach at a camp for high ability students. It was one of the most amazing opportunities of my life - so far!
I started my journey as a teacher at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. There I earned my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education. A few years later I decided to go back and earn my master's degree in reading at Wingate University. Early on in my career I began working in classrooms where the AIG students were clustered together and it was simply amazing. It inspired me to learn more about gifted education.
And so, I went back to UNC Charlotte to study gifted education and earned my AIG certification in grades K-12. My ultimate career goal is to earn my doctorate in Gifted Education. You could definitely describe me as a lifelong learner!
As an AIG teacher I have many goals for myself and my students. My most important goal is to provide our AIG students with the best support possible as they move through elementary school. I want to be able to support my students in achieving sustained academic success while simultaneously building on their own strengths and challenges. Along the way I know I will also be able to foster and build independent, strong-willed, and unique lifelong learners.
